We are now recruiting a Rail Track and Structures Asset Engineer to provide technical leadership in the management of track and civil infrastructure assets across the West Midlands Metro system.

You will ensure structural integrity, compliance and the long-term condition of all permanent way and civil assets, including supporting planned inspections, interpreting survey data, preparing work specifications and maintaining a robust asset database using the Agility system.

In addition to this as our Track and Structures Asset Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing inspection and survey reports, identifying trends, potential long-term faults, and root causes of infrastructure issues.
  • Developing specifications and scopes of work for track renewals, repairs, upgrades, and structural refurbishments.
  • Managing general and principal inspections through external contractors.
  • Overseeing asset data input, updates, and quality assurance within the Agility Asset Management System to ISO 55000 standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with light rail standards, ORR guidance, and relevant civil and track inspection protocols.
  • Providing documentation and reports to support audit, compliance, and operational planning processes.
  • Liaising with internal teams, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), external consultants, and project delivery partners to ensure asset information supports project development, design, and renewal planning.
  • Supporting capital delivery works and reactive projects by advising on asset interface, design standards, and site constraints.
  • Reviewing and updating technical procedures related to the inspection, maintenance, and renewal of track and civil infrastructure assets.
  • Supporting the Safety Management System by ensuring risk controls, RAMS documentation, and emergency response strategies are current and compliant.

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have:

  • HNC or equivalent Level 4 qualification in Civil Engineering, Rail Engineering or Track Infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in supporting general and principal inspection regimes.
  • Working knowledge of rail or tramway permanent way systems and structural infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems.
  • Experience writing technical specifications for works, renewals or remedial interventions.
  • Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and infrastructure safety standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical asset systems, including survey analysis tools.
  • A full UK driving license.
  • Strong analytical, technical and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities alongside a strong understanding of safety principles and operational risk.

It would be great if you had any of the following:

  • HND or Foundation Degree in Civil or Rail Engineering.
  • Membership of a relevant institution at EngTech level.
  • Experience using ClearRoute, GEDO Suite, LiDAR, or other survey interpretation tools.
