Salary: From £36,765 to £41,238 Depending on Experience
Contract: Permanent, Mon – Thu 0700 – 1500, Fri 0700 – 1400 – Flexible night working when required

We are now recruiting for a Signalling and Telecommunications Technician to undertake work with our S&T Infrastructure Team, ensuring the maintenance and repair tasks are performed with the utmost safety and effectiveness.

As our Signalling and Telecommunications Technician, you will assume responsibility for:

• Ensuring inspection and maintenance tasks are being completed in a timely manner and in compliance with the planned maintenance schedule
• Ensuring the work tasks follow the correct procedures
• Conducting maintenance and repairs to the West Midland Metro signalling and telecommunications equipment
• Oversight of contractors carrying out planned works on the signalling and telecommunications equipment
• Assisting in test and commissioning of new systems
• Switching of electrical substations
• Involvement may be necessary when external contractors are required to conduct any planned works
• Continuous assessment and improvement of working practices embracing new technologies
• Flexibility to respond to emergency situations and unplanned repairs outside of normal working hours
• On Call duties
• Night shift work to perform maintenance and repair work as may reasonably be required by MML management

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have:

• A good working knowledge of rail or light rail infrastructure or similar complex signalling and communication systems environment.
• A good working knowledge and competence in electrical / mechanical systems.
• Recognised Electrical Qualification at Level 3 or above.
• Experience in the use of computer based diagnostic equipment.
• Demonstrable computer literacy and writing skills.
• The ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
• A full driving license.

It would be great if you had:

• Management and Leadership qualification to a minimum of ILM 2 or equivalent.
• Competency in fibre and data maintenance, repair and installation including all associated converters and systems.
• Experience of leading others, and ability to directly manage a team of maintenance technicians, being responsible for their performance and conduct at work.
• The ability to interrogate and program parameters into industrial based safety critical signalling software.
