West Midlands Metro is your gateway to an exciting career in the heart of England's thriving West Midlands region. We are the driving force behind modern, sustainable urban transportation, connecting cities, towns, and most importantly – people!

With a strong presence in the heart of England, we play a crucial role in connecting communities, enhancing mobility, and contributing to the economic development of the region. Our sleek trams provide fast, convenient, and eco-friendly transportation solutions, reducing road congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and fostering a greener future for the West Midlands.

We are now recruiting for a Maintenance Technician to support our mission of providing a safe and reliable tram service, performing maintenance, repair, and overhaul services for our rolling stock assets.

We are not only looking for candidates with experience in rail or trams, as long as you can demonstrate experience working with electrical and mechanical fault finding, in an automotive setting or similar.

Alternatively, you may have completed your level 3 qualification in the field of Engineering and looking for a career?  – we would love to speak to you!

As our Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing preventative scheduled maintenance on the trams, working on systems incorporating mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Performing corrective maintenance on the trams, which includes troubleshooting, fault finding, and diagnosis using computer equipment and on-tram diagnostics systems, followed by repairs as appropriate.
  • Supporting the testing, commissioning, and acceptance of new trams.
  • Recording all work activities, including all preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Accurately reporting and recording details of fault finding and diagnosis.
  • Supporting Rolling Stock Engineering Management in delivering the production plan, ensuring exam tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Actively participating in ongoing continuous improvement activities.

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have:

  • Experience in undertaking preventative and corrective maintenance on high-value safety-critical equipment.
  • Experience in finding and diagnosing faults in complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience in the use of computer-based diagnostic equipment.

It would be great if you had:

  • Mechanical and Electrical ONC or a time-served apprenticeship in mechanical or electrical disciplines.
  • Engineering-based NVQ level 3.
