Electrical Maintenance / Power Distribution / Substations
Midland Metro Limited is looking for an Infrastructure Electrical & Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering team.
This role is suited to someone with an industrial electrical maintenance background who is confident with inspection, testing, fault-finding, maintenance and repair of electrical systems in an operational or safety-critical environment.
Previous tramway or railway experience is not essential. We are keen to hear from candidates with experience in industrial electrical maintenance, utilities, manufacturing, process plant, energy, substations, automation, control systems, maintenance or similar environments.
The role is primarily focused on maintaining MML’s electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including 750V DC traction power substations, low-voltage single-phase and three-phase installations, switchgear, control equipment, lighting, tram stop electrical assets, and associated electro-mechanical equipment.
You will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, diagnose faults, complete repairs, support testing and commissioning activities, and ensure accurate records are maintained within the asset management system. The role also forms part of the infrastructure on-call arrangements, supporting emergency response, service-affecting failures and unplanned out-of-hours repairs where required.
We are looking for someone with:
• A recognised electrical qualification at Level 3 or above.
• Experience in an industrial electrical maintenance environment.
• Good electrical fault-finding, inspection and testing ability.
• Experience with low-voltage systems, three-phase supplies, switchgear, control panels or similar electrical assets.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including nights, weekends and out-of-hours support when required on-call.
• A full UK driving licence.
Desirable experience:
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
• Authorised Person trained.
• HV/LV switching or Authorised Person experience.
• Substation, traction power or switchgear maintenance experience.
• SCADA or control systems experience.
• IOSH or similar safety qualification.
• Experience using maintenance or asset management systems.
This is a varied role where your electrical skills will be applied to a live transport infrastructure environment, with opportunities to develop specialist competence in traction power, substations, tramway infrastructure and safety-critical maintenance.
